I’d like to make short introduction of cities and locations available for shooting in Ukraine, and give you a general feeling and understanding of what you can find there. There are 3 basic regions of interest for cinematographers in Ukraine.
- Kiev. The capital of Ukraine and main base for productions, rental companies and studios. Film development lab, color correction studios, sound, editing and postproductions are located in Kiev.
- Crimea region. You can find Rocky Mountains, sea beaches, historical palaces, subtropical parks and spectacular roads close to each other. Places to stay for shooting are located at the seacoast: Yalta, Sevastopol, Sudak and others. Distance from Kiev to Crimea is about 1000km. Shooting in Crimea requires travel of the part of a shooting crew. Some equipment and staff are available on place.
- Western region: Lviv and Carpathian mountains. Lviv (or Lvov). This city has classic European city look, like Prague or Budapest. There are a lot of castles, palaces, and great historical indoor and outdoor locations. Distance from Kiev to Lviv is about 600km. Carpathian Mountains. Scenic forest mountains, alpine valleys, rivers and forest waterfalls, vineyards and gardens. Its possible to fly to Carpathian region from Kiev. Distance from Kiev to Carpathian mountains is about 900km. Its necessary to bring whole crew and equipment.
Hope to see you soon on shooting sets in Ukraine!
